29th April 2018

Leesfield Parish – 29th April 2018
The Bible Study group will meet tomorrow, Monday 30th April at 1.30 pm. Frank and lively discussions about Scripture and our walk with God. Each Study stands alone...so it doesn't matter if you have missed a few weeks. Please do be encouraged to come along.

Ladies of Leesfield coffee morning is from 10.30 am to 12 noon on Saturday 5th May at 31, Ivy Green Drive.

This year’s Ascension Day Communion is on Thursday 10th May, 7.30 pm at St Thomas’. The ladies will be serving coffee afterwards so please feel free to join them for a chat.

The first session of preparation for confirmation for children will take place straight after school on Tuesday 8th May at St Thomas’ Church. More information to follow for adults wishing to be confirmed.

Rose Queen – The new Rose Queen Ella Spence will be crowned at St Agnes’ on Saturday 12th May at 2 pm. Lots of fun activities and refreshments will be available after the ceremony. Family tickets (price £2.50) are now on sale, please see the Rose Queen and retinue mums. Even if you can’t make it to the crowning, please buy a family ticket, as all tickets will be entered into a draw to win a £50 cash prize.

Christian Aid Week 13 – 19 May – We will again be collecting House-to-House in Lees, and need volunteers to help with this. If you could spare a couple of hours in that week to deliver envelopes and return a couple of days later to collect them please contact Liz or Paul. The more volunteers we have, the more money we can collect!

Also during Christian Aid Week we are again hosting a Big Brekkie from 9 am onwards on Thursday 17th May in St Thomas’ Community Room. Tickets cost £5 for bacon buttties or beans on toast and unlimited tea, coffee, toast & jam, and will be on sale from 10th May onwards.

On Saturday 19th May the Ladies of Leesfield are having their monthly Tea and Toast morning at St Thomas’ from 10.30 am to 12 noon. All are most welcome to come along.

Also on Saturday the 19th Rose Queen Ella and her retinue are hosting a Royal Wedding Tea Party at St Agnes’. The event will run from 11 am to 5 pm, with lots of fun activities for children all day, and the wedding itself will be shown live on a big screen. Tickets cost £5 per adult (including afternoon tea, a glass of fizz to toast the happy couple & unlimited tea/coffee), £3.50 per child, (including lunchbox, non-alcoholic fizz & unlimited cordial). Other refreshments will be on sale throughout the day. Buy your tickets now from the Rose Queen and retinue mums to avoid disappointment, as space is limited.

Saturday 7 April 2018

8th April 2018

Leesfield Parish – 8th April 2018
Youth church starts today at St Thomas’ in the Community room, at the same time as Sunday School. It is for those children over Sunday School age (years 7 to 9), and will generally take place fortnightly. Rebecca Ashton will be leading the group, which will cover material based on the Gospel for the day in a way that is accessible for this age group, with plenty of scope for discussion. Anyone in this age group is welcome. More information is available from Edith or Rebecca.

Immediately following today’s service at St Thomas’ there will be a full PCC meeting to approve the parish financial accounts for 2017. All PCC members from both churches should attend this meeting.

The Parish Confirmation Service is on July 15th at St Thomas. If you haven’t been confirmed please think seriously about it. Minimum age is Year 6 and there is no upper age limit! I am particularly keen to encourage adults who are regular attenders at church and who have not been confirmed to consider taking this step this year. Preparation sessions will take place shortly, so please let me know if you are interested. Expressions of interest are not a commitment!  Edith

Following the Churches Together Lent Lunch meetings, and the sad news of Stephen Hawking’s death, several people have expressed an interest in seeing the film “The Theory of Everything” in full. Zion Methodist Church will be showing the film at 12 noon on Tuesday 17th April. Everyone is warmly invited to come along, and there will be cake.

The Ladies of Leesfield are holding a Celebration of Lady Day at 7.30 pm on Thursday 12th April in St Thomas’ Community Room. The guest speaker will be Archdeacon Cherry and everyone is welcome to come along, regardless of whether you are a lady, or of Leesfield.

The APCM (Annual Parochial Church Meeting) will be on Sunday 22nd April, after a 10 am Parish Service at St Thomas’. This meeting is open to the public, but to vote in elections of Churchwardens and members of the PCC, or to be nominated as a candidate, you will need to be on the Electoral Roll of Leesfield Parish. Forms are now available at both churches for inclusion on the Electoral Roll and Nominations for Churchwardens and PCC members. Please see Edith or the wardens if you require any further information.

Harvest Queen – Harvest Queen Ella and her Retinue invite you to their Harry Potter Family Fun Evening in St Thomas’ school hall from 5 to 7 pm on Saturday 21st April – please see poster for full details.

Rose Queen – The new Rose Queen Ella Spence will be crowned at St Agnes’ on Saturday 12th May, and on the following Saturday the 19th Ella and her retinue are hosting a Royal Wedding Tea Party. Tickets are now available for both events from the Rose Queen and retinue mums.

St Thomas’ church is open regularly on Tuesday and Saturday mornings, so people can drop in, look around, pray or just sit. For this to happen, we need volunteers to sit in church. Can you spare an hour now and again? See Edith or sign the list please.
