Leesfield Parish – 28th January 2018
Now that Christmas is over, here’s a really thought- provoking poem about what to do next to help others. We are still collecting hats, scarves, gloves, socks, toiletries and non-perishable food items for distribution to Community Projects supporting homeless people and families in crisis in our area. Please give as generously as you can to help these charities who work tirelessly all year round.

The Bible Study group will meet on Mondays 29th January & 12th February at 1.30 pm. Frank and lively discussions about Scripture and our walk with God. Each Study stands alone...so it doesn't matter if you have missed a few weeks. Please do be encouraged to come along.

Buildings Committee meets at St Agnes’, 7.30 pm on Monday 5th February.

There are still a few tickets available for the Rose Queen and Harvest Queen Dinner Dance at the White Hart on Friday 16th March. The cost is £35 per ticket for this excellent event, please see Colette or Karen for further details or to purchase your tickets.

There are now vacancies for foundation governors at all three of our church schools, if you would like more information please see Edith or Rebecca.

Ladies of Leesfield – Coffee morning on Saturday 3rd February, 10.30 am at 29 Livingstone Street, Lees. The AGM follows the Ash Wednesday Communion at 7.30 pm on the 14th February.

Churches Together in Lees and District Lent Meetings

All are warmly invited to join us at our Lent Lunchtime meetings. This year we will focus on the film ‘The Theory of Everything’ using the Lent course book ‘The Mystery of Everything’ which asks us to consider the mysteries of the universe in everyday life and the acceptance that we have more questions than answers. It may be helpful if you have watched the film beforehand. The meetings are at Zion Methodist Church, starting at 12 noon on Tuesday 20th Feb to 20th March inclusive, and last approximately 45-60 minutes. A simple lunch of soup and bread is served afterwards.

St Thomas’ church is open regularly on Tuesday and Saturday mornings, so people can drop in, look around, pray or just sit. For this to happen, we need volunteers to sit in church. Can you spare an hour now and again? See Edith or sign the list please.
The February/March edition of “Voice” magazine is now available. Annual subscriptions are now due, so to be sure of getting your regular copy please pay £5 and add your name to the list. Because we have kept the price of the magazine in line with the cost of professional printing we can’t afford to have many “spare” copies, so it’s helpful to know how many we need before ordering.

Items for the newsletter, website and facebook pages to Liz (lizzy.dent@googlemail.com) whenever you want to send. Lots of lovely pictures please!

Leesfield Parish – January 2018

The Bible Study group will meet on Mondays 8th, 22nd & 29th January at 1.30 pm. Frank and lively discussions about Scripture and our walk with God. Each Study stands alone...so it doesn't matter if you have missed a few weeks. Please do be encouraged to come along.

Parish meetings in January are – St Thomas’ DCC – Monday 15th at 7 pm, St Agnes’ Open Forum – Wednesday 17th at 8 pm, and PCC – Monday 22nd, 7 pm at St Thomas’. St Thomas’ DCC and St Agnes’ Open Forum are both open meetings, so please come along and have your say, even if you’re not a PCC member.

The £500 deposit for the Rose Queen and Harvest Queen Dinner Dance on Friday 16th March has to be paid to the White Hart now, so we really need to be certain that we will have sold the required number of tickets. The cost is £35 per ticket for this excellent event, and Colette or Karen need names and £5 deposits ASAP.

The Churches Together Service for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity will be at 3 pm on Sunday 21st January at St John’s Hey. All are welcome as we join with our fellow Christians from around the area.

The collections we started around Christmas for those who are less fortunate than ourselves are continuing into the new year. Please be as generous as you can, these organisations work really hard to help people who are homeless and families in crisis, and our intention is to continue our support throughout the year, not just at Christmas and Harvest.

St Agnes’ are collecting non-perishable food items and toiletries for Impact Church Oldham. St Thomas’ are collecting hats, scarves, gloves, socks and toiletries for the Booth Centre, Manchester, and non-perishable food items for the Community Project at St Barnabas’ Church, Clarksfield.
