The Great Leesfield Parish Boundary Walk 2017

Saturday 12th August 10 am to 3 pm

Starting from the car park at the end of Station Road, Grotton

Please join us as we walk the Parish Boundary. The whole walk is about 9 miles, but it can be split into sections so you don't have to do it all to join in the event and enjoy the companionship of walking together. Easier routes are available which use minor roads and footpaths to avoid fields, mud, steps and cattle, but there will still be some steep inclines on some sections.

More details of the stages are shown below, and there will be an update next weekend when we have checked the footpaths for erosion due to heavy rain.

It's helpful if we know how many people are walking so we can make sure that we have enough marshals, water and first-aiders, so if you are able to come along please register using the contact details below.

Sponsorship is not essential for this event. Whilst we need to raise funds for parish finances, this is more about getting together to appreciate our vast and diverse parish. If you would like to raise sponsorship you can copy the form below, or raise funds on line by following the link mydonate.bt.com/events/boundarywalk2017

Leesfield Parish - August 2017

There is still a lot happening in the Parish during the holidays. Sunday and Tuesday services will continue as usual. There will be no Sunday School at St Thomas’, but children are most welcome to join us at our services. St Agnes’ Sunday School carries on, with a more informal “Holiday Club” style.

The Bible Study group will meet on Mondays 31st July, 14th August and 4th September at 1.30 pm. Frank and lively discussions about Scripture and our walk with God. Each Study stands alone...so it doesn't matter if you have missed a few weeks. Do be encouraged to come along!

Ladies of Leesfield :–

Tea & Toast - Saturday 19th August at 10.30am. Cost £3 including raffle.
Bygone Days (Part 1) – Thursday 24th August at 7.30pm. All are welcome to join us as we share our photos and memories (particularly those featuring Leesfield Church and School) up to the 1960s.
Strawberry Cream Tea – Saturday 26th August at 2.30pm. Tickets cost £5 and are on sale now.

Oldham Play Action Group are running activity sessions for Primary School age children in St Thomas’ Community Room every Thursday 1-3pm in the holidays. There will be arts & crafts, and indoor and outdoor play. The sessions are free of charge and open to all, but children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult. Volunteers are needed to help with the activities.

This year's Leesfield Parish Sponsored Boundary Walk is on Saturday 12th August, starting at 10am from the car park at the end of Station Road, Grotton. It’s a great chance to explore our vast and diverse parish, have fun and make new friends, so if you’ve not been before please come and join us.

The whole walk is around 9 miles in length, over some tricky terrain, but it can be split into easy sections and there are alternative routes which avoid mud and cattle.

Sponsor forms and details are available from both churches, or follow the link mydonate.bt.com/events/boundarywalk2017  to register as a fundraiser and get on-line sponsorship, or to sponsor the event or an individual walker.

St Thomas' Church is open regularly on Tuesday and Saturday mornings, so people can drop in, look around, pray or just sit. For this to happen, we need volunteers to sit in church (Could be in the back room!) Can you spare an hour now and again? See Edith or sign the list please.

Items for the newsletter to Liz (lizzy.dent@googlemail.com) by Wednesday eve please.

Friday 14 July 2017

What an Amazing Weekend!

Last weekend was full of events - social, fundraising and spiritual

On Friday we had a Cheese and Wine Evening organised by Lesley.

Wines and Cheeses from around the world were sampled by many parishioners and their guests, and it was such an enjoyable social event that people were already asking on the night when we could have another one.

Many thanks to all who generously donated items and money towards the evening, and helped to make it such a great success.

Saturday was the "At Home" of Harvest Queen Molly-Mae and her retinue Clara, Evie, Jenna and Libby.

There was a service in church where Queens from all around the locality were welcomed, followed by refreshments and stalls in the school hall.

Thank you all the mums - Emma, Liz, Nicola and Ella, and to everyone who helped in so many ways to make this such a delightful afternoon.

And finally, on Sunday morning, the Parish Confirmation Service.

Bishop Mark confirmed several members of our congregation in a joyous service.

Our prayers are with Lucy, Orran, Jack, Ellie, Poppy, Darcie, Bethany, Amy, Caleb, Charlie, Katie, Carys, Lauren, Martin, Kylie, Rebecca, Lydia and Clifton as they embark on this next stage of their journey in Faith.

The Parish Confirmation Service is today, St Thomas’ at 11am. No service at St Agnes’.

Bible Study :  Monday at 1.30pm. The Group enjoys frank and lively discussions about Scripture and our walk with God. We have been learning about the Holy Spirit but each Study stands alone...so it doesn't matter if you have missed a few weeks. Do be encouraged to come along!

There are some people who really want to join us but are also involved with the Pastoral visits to local care homes, so for a trial period we are alternating the two. Please keep an eye on the dates list for details.

Wednesday & Thursday  “Annie” at St Agnes’ 7pm

Parish Trip to Liverpool on Saturday 15th July, Coach leaves Burton St at 9am.

This year's Boundary Walk is on Saturday 12th August, in the school holidays. Although some families may be away, many will not, so if you're looking for something a bit different to fill a Saturday please come along and join us.

The full walk is around 9 miles in length, but can be split into shorter stages to make it suitable for people of all ages and walking abilities. Alternative routes are also available which avoid fields, brambles, mud and cows.

It will take just under 5 hours to complete the whole walk, including picnic stops, and there will be marshals at several places with water.

Sponsor forms with brief details are now available in both churches, with full walking guides and maps to be produced by early August.

St Thomas church is open regularly on Tuesday and Saturday mornings, so people can drop in, look around, pray or just sit. For this to happen, we need volunteers to sit in church (Could be in the back room !) Can you spare an hour now and again? See Edith or sign the list please.
