Tuesday 24 January 2017

Leesfield Parish January 22nd 2017

PCC meets next Monday, 23rd, 7pm in St Thomas’. Would all members please do their best to attend. One of the items we are discussing is Mission Action Planning – please come prepared to discuss the paper circulated at our last meeting.

Next Sunday, 29th January, there will be a Churches Together service for the Week of Christian Unity. This will be held at Salem Moravian Church at 3pm. The preacher will be Archdeacon Cherry. It would be encouraging to have a good turn out to show unity with our fellow Christians in Lees and district. If you don’t know where Salem Moravian Church is, please ask!

If any of our children or young people (or older people!) play a musical instrument, would they like to join a small group to play occasionally in church services? Please let Paul or Edith know if you might be interested.

A gentle reminder – our Tuesday morning Communion service is held every week at 10am. At St Thomas’. Currently we are in the community room (warm!) and we have a cuppa and a chat afterwards. If you are available and haven’t yet joined us do come along.

If you want to hold a social gathering or meeting do consider hiring our community room. It holds up to 30 easily, 40 with a bit of a squash, is warm and there is a kitchen and toilet. The cost is reasonable and we have links with a caterer if you are interested in that too. Audrey is in charge of bookings for the room.

PCC meets next Monday, 23rd, 7pm in St Thomas’.

We are collecting items of warm clothing such as hats, scarves, gloves and socks to take down to the Booth Centre for the homeless in Manchester. If you have any of these to spare or get some as Christmas presents you can't use these would be most welcome. Deadline for our collection is next Sunday, 22nd, as Paul will take our donations down that week.

Voice your ideas:
Hopefully, most of you will know that we are going to have the magazine professionally produced from next month with more content from more people.
So, it seems like a great opportunity to think of a new name for the magazine than Voice. That's where you can help - we'd like your ideas of what you think the new magazine should be called.  It doesn't have to be just one word or church related. What do you think would attract people to pick up a copy in the library for example. If you have an idea please let Paul or one of the clergy know by 15th January.

Paul Dent is hoping for interesting items for the new magazine. Brief accounts of events over the festive period, or other things that will interest our readers please. Please give or e mail to Paul by January 15th for the Feb/Mar issue.

Make sure you have got your copy of this month’s magazine – the last in the present format.

If any of our children or young people (or older people!) play a musical instrument, would they like to join a small group to play occasionally in church services? Please let Paul or Edith know if you might be interested.

Also Cold Nights - Local charity which goes into Manchester to take food to people sleeping on the streets. They would like donations of pot noodles, porridge pots, crisps and chocolate. Their local drop off point is Limekiln Cafe by the Brownhill Visitor Centre in Uppermill so we could take donations up there. Chocolate bars are a particular treat, so if anyone has any such thing as an unwanted chocolate bar that would be greatly appreciated.
