Leesfield Parish October 30th 2016

This afternoon we have a service for All Souls at St Thomas’ at 3.30pm. This is a short reflective service where we come together to remember our loved ones departed – no matter how long ago they died. There will be readings and hymns and an opportunity to light a candle for a loved one. The names of everyone for whom the clergy have conducted a funeral in the last 12 months will be read out, and if you attend, you are invited to add the names of your loved ones departed to the list. Everyone is of course welcome.

On the 5th of November we are invited to attend the School of Prayer in the Cathedral. This will be an interesting and inspiring event. A group of us are going to meet at Derker Tram stop just before 9am to travel together. You are welcome to join us –let me know if you need a lift to Derker! The event finishes late lunchtime.

On 6th November there is a Churches together service at Springhead Congregational  Church  at 3pm.  Title is For all the Saints. We will sing hymns, listen to some short talks and pray about 3 of the well-known saints. See poster in church for details.

Parish trip to York Christmas market will be on Saturday 19th November. Leave at 9am, returning 4.30pm. The cost is £15. Please Let Audrey, Roy or Vera Howarth know if you want to go.

Please would PCC members return their questionnaires to Edith as soon as possible – very few have been returned and we hope to discuss them at Standing committee on November 7th.

Unfortunately I have been unable to arrange another series of Exploring Prayer sessions this term as I had hoped. It has proved impossible to find a regular time and venue for 5 sessions. I am trying to arrange for next term. However there is a half day on November 5th that you would find interesting. It is at the Cathedral (easy, 5 mins from the Victoria tram stop) beginning at 9.30am. There will be 12 workshops, of which you can choose to attend 2. Do think about coming along. More details on the posters in church.

Community Room  Anyone wishing to book the community room at St Thomas should contact Audrey Atkinson (652 2987) She is in charge of bookings so we don’t double book.

In order to save on printing costs and to be more environmentally friendly, we are reducing the number of newsletters we are producing. Newsletters are sent electronically to everyone for whom Edith has an e mail address. Leesfield Parish October 2nd 2016

Today we celebrate Harvest. Thank you for all your gifts towards this. They are added to those from St Thomas’ School and St Hugh’s school and will be taken to the food bank run by the Impact Community Church –this does vital work giving food to people in desperate immediate need of food. We have had very enjoyable harvest celebrations with all three of our parish schools this week. Gifts from St Agnes School are taken, as usual, to another excellent cause.

Thank you too to the Ladies of Leesfield for organizing the lunch many of us will share later. Because of that lunch there will not be coffee after the service today.

Today is the deadline for Supplementary forms for Bluecoat and Crompton House to be given to Edith. Meetings with wardens and Sunday school leaders take place this week. The forms will be signed then and returned to you as soon as possible.  .

Next Saturday, 8th October, there will be a Coffee morning at 2 Hopkin View 10.30 till noon – the home of Brenda Morton

Tuesday morning Eucharist   Our numbers are growing! It is a joy to see the congregation at this service getting bigger in numbers and including people who also attend one or other of our Sunday services. Come and join us at the service and stay for a cuppa and chat!   (10am)

Community Room  Anyone wishing to book the community room at St Thomas should contact Audrey Atkinson (652 2987) She is in charge of bookings so we don’t double book.
